BIL Lesson 4

“The Reign of Spiritual Death”

·       What was God’s original will for man?- To eat from the Tree of Life and become like him

·       What are the three different wills?- God’s will, Satan’s will and Man’s will

o   Mat 6:24 “No man can serve two masters: for either he. will hate the one, and love the other; or else. He will hold to the one, and despise the other, Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

·       Adam and Eve refused God’s will in the garden. They wanted to do things their own way, but by trying to be their own boss, they became slaves of Satan.

·       Was spiritual death passed on to Adam’s sons?- Yes

·       How do we know that?- Cain was wicked and killed Abel

o   Romans 5:12 “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:”

·       Why did reason gain supremacy over faith?- Because man had to rely on his sense knowledge and not on God’s abilities.

o   Romans 8:7 “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.”

·       Why couldn’t Adam save himself?- He handed authority over to Satan

·       Why wasn’t it enough to just forgive mankind of all their sins?- They would still be under Satan’s authority and have that sin nature. God had to “buy” us back.

o   “The power and authority of sin over the life of man would still remain. It would be necessary for man to be continually granted forgiveness of sins. Such was the condition of Israel.”

o   Do you have to ask God for forgiveness every time you sin? What is the difference between repentance and asking forgiveness?

·       Why is Redemption more than just forgiveness?- It is the gift of a new nature and a new life.

·       What does it mean to be born again?- We were children of Satan and we are born-again to become children of God.

o   Babies don’t have to strive to look like their parents. When we become born again, we start to look like God. The word Christian literally means “Christ-like” or “little Christ’. We start to act like God not because we start following a bunch of rules. It’s because we were born again and this is who we were always meant to be.

·       When Jesus was born, did he have a “sin-nature”?- No because he was a son of God and you can’t be a son of God and a son of Satan at the same time.
